Research and Reports
The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) monitors priority health-risk behaviors and the prevalence of obesity and asthma among youth and young adults. The YRBSS includes a national school-based survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state, territorial, tribal, and local surveys conducted by state, territorial, and local education and health agencies and tribal governments.

State Violent Death Reporting System Workgroup Releases Report [PDF 5MB]
The State Violent Death Reporting System Workgroup has released a report highlighting the similarities and differences in the numbers, characteristics, and circumstances of deaths from violence reported in each of the 17 CDC-funded National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) states. Examples of the differences in the sources, quality, and completeness of data in each state are also described within the report. The considerable state-level heterogeneity demonstrated throughout emphasizes the need to support all states to participate in and contribute to the national database. In addition to their findings, the Workgroup describes several major recommendations that should be considered to provide a state perspective on the next steps needed to realize a fully comprehensive national reporting system on deaths from violence. Florida is not currently funded to participate in the NVDRS.
